Diversity Council

Alison Banks-Moore

“I felt joining the Council was an essential part of my role as Chief Diversity Officer. Not only can I share my own perspective based on the work I do on a daily basis, I’m also able to share best practices from other diversity professionals. Diversity transcends far beyond race and gender. It exists in our work ethic, how we were raised, how we think and who we are. Diversity represents the many perspectives and experiences we each possess that enhance the level of contribution we all can make here at Horizon BCBSNJ.”

I believe this is a great opportunity to foster positive relationships built upon our commonalities and respect for our differences.”

Angelica Jimenez-Hughes

Tax Analyst, Finance

“I joined the Diversity Council to be a part of something extraordinary here at Horizon BCBSNJ; to not only share my culture, but to learn and understand the immense variety of other cultures that work here. Every day we each leave our homes as an individual of a certain nationality or religion, but when we walk through the lobby doors we all become Horizonians! A Horizonian is a deep mixture of culture that carries a little piece of each of us. It is reflected in the end product of each and every project we work on together. This is diversity at its best. The opportunity to work, learn, teach and understand who we are and what we can contribute as a unique individual to a team is what diversity is all about.”

Angelica has an MBA with a concentration in Finance and an M.S. in Accountancy. Angelica is a member of the Latin American Cultural Organization (LACO) Affinity Group and serves on the North Jersey Board for Junior Achievement of New Jersey.

“I joined the Diversity Council to contribute to sharing the core messages of diversity throughout our organization through participation in Company programs and community outreach activities. While growing up, I was afforded the opportunity to live in other countries, exposing me to various ethnicities and cultures. As a result I quickly became aware of how diversity can become a barrier between people if not embraced and accepted. The Diversity Council has been an integral part of Horizon BCBSNJ and I’m truly humbled to be a part of the Council’s important work.”

Jezel holds a B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University.

Liza-Jo Perlas-Quiray

Kala Ramkhelawan

“I joined the Diversity Council to encourage employees to recognize and appreciate the variety of characteristics that make individuals unique at Horizon BCBSNJ. Diversity is more than just about race, gender and religion. Diversity in the workplace also includes political beliefs, education, socioeconomic background, family life style, professional status work styles and office location. Through the Diversity Council, I am looking forward to educating others on the unique qualities of our employee population and encouraging others to embrace and celebrate those differences.”

Pamela studied at Upsala College and received her certification in Human Resources Management from Rutgers University. She is a certified facilitator for Development Divisional International Learning Systems and a member of the Society of Human Resources Management. Elizabeth Rubin

Director, Analytics Business Partner

“My views on diversity began forming at an early age. As a teenager, I taught children with physical challenges to ride horses. In my college years, I was involved in philanthropic projects related to diseases of the eye and blindness. During graduate school at Columbia University in New York City, I was immersed in a community of learners from all over the globe.

For more than 20 years, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of analytical roles. It is interesting to see that no matter how my role has been aligned or what Blue Plan I’m working with, we have more things in common than one might realize initially.

In addition to my cultural beliefs, these experiences and many more have led me to feel strongly that we are better as analysts, people, and employees of Horizon BCBSNJ for having diverse perspectives. Our thoughts, decisions and actions are improved by this rich diversity. I am deeply honored to be a part of Horizon BCBSNJ’s Diversity Council.”

Liz is Director, Analytics Business Partner at Horizon BCBSNJ. She joined the Company in 2006, after approximately seven years with Empire BlueCross BlueShield. Liz lives in Bergen County, with her husband, two daughters, and two rescued dogs.
